Post subject: When printing from Illustrator color is way off but when flattened to jpg ok?
Archived from groups: alt>graphics>illustrator (more info?)

When I print from Illustrator sometimes the colors are significantly
wrong, like red is black...It seems like my artwork isn't flattening
properly or something within Illustrator isn't set right. I tried some
of the settings there but to no avail. I also tried converting to JPG
and just doing a quick test print and it works fine. What the hell
right? But it's a lot of work to relayout the art for my templates as
they are double sided and it's been problem on a few jobs now so it's
time to sack up and fix it.

Note: I'm not talking about a little different color shift than my
monitor which is acceptable to me. The difference in color is major
and seems layer related from the results.
Any ideas out there?

Doug and jbl are best qualified to answer, but I'll take a stab at it!
; )

Are you making sure (not trying to offend you, here) that your
colorspaces are the same? I mean, are you making sure that when you
export to JPG, they're not switching color modes (going Illy CMYK to PS
RGB)?

But really, the whole thing about red printing black sounds like it may
be a communication error between your app and your printer. I'd try
using another printer or printing on another computer to the same (?)
printer. Doing a test on another computer and/or printer might solve
the issue.

What kind of printer are you using? Meaning, what brand?

Also are you flattening the artwork yourself, or just using the default?

Again, not trying to be offensive here - I'm just don't know your
expertise with Illy and/or printing. We get pros in here who have been
using Illy for 15+ years, and we get people who are just now using the
technology - so please take my questions with a grain of salt! ; )

HTH at least a little . . .
