I want to make a circle with 12 blocks around it, like a cogwheel.
There is a quick method for this, something like "step and repeat", but I
forgot how to do it.

Can somebody help me with this ?

Regards,
Yammaski.

it's actually pretty simple. Create a circle (duh), then create a rectangle.
Duplicate that rectangle a few times, then rotate each rectangle in
succession (depending on the size, but go in intervals, say rotate 30
degrees for the first, 60 for the second, 90 for the third, etc), select all
the shapes, and align them evenly (according to their centers, use the
alignment tool). Then merge them with the pathfinder tool. Then create a
smaller circle, and align that with the first shape, and "minus front".

If you want a cog with inner radii, it's a similar technic, but you'll need
more rectangles (since these won't be running crossways of the circle, but
rather running along the circumference of the circle). To get it even, I'd
suggest creating two circles, one smaller, and aligning them, and use the
inner circle as your 'guide' for depth placement of the spokes.

Alternately, if you want the outter spokes and the inner radii to match up,
create a donut (two circles, align them, minus front), create a rectangle,
then perspective skew one end (pinch it), and duplicate that, rotate, etc.

HTH.

That is a way to do it.

OTOH: (from the top of my head which is hard for a guy who wants to see
what he does)

1. Create a circle
2. Create a square
3. Place the square at the exact top of the circle
4. Make sure the square is selected and choose the rotation tool with
the option/alt key pressed
5. Click on the dead centre of the circle, a pop up box will appear,
zoom in and use the Outline mode to see the centre point
6. Select 30 degrees (360/12) and say copy
7. Use the repeat transform 11 times to repeat this action

I believe you can do the same with the Effects, and even in one move, so
12 copies rotations. Like I said from the top of my head
