Post subject: trying to get a logo from a pdf
Archived from groups: alt>graphics>illustrator (more info?)

I'm trying to extract the swissbit logo from the following pdf and am
having some difficulty:

http://www.swissbit.com/file/2/ct_625_ctDownload1.pdf

Wwhen I use the Selection Tool to select the logo, a huge box is
selected. Then, when I move it, I see that the logo, itself, is white.

I'd like to (1) get the logo out of the box and (2) change it's color
(which it'd seem I can't currently do, since my attempts to do so
change the color of the entire box).

If someone wanted to do this for me, that'd be great, but I also would
kinda like to know how to do it, myself Smile

I tried to do "Release Clipping Mask" but that didn't seem to do
anything...

I've been asked to place a link to them on a website and I figured why
not make their logo a link? Consistency, however, dictates that it be
of the same size as the other image links on that website and the *.jpg
or whatever they have on their website isn't.

Is that any more copyright infringement than making a picture of the
Google logo link to google.com? I wouldn't think either constitute
copyright infringement, but who knows... (I don't).

I guess you can decide for yourself, with the info. I just posted Smile

Actually, I would think it would constitute fair use and thus not be
copyright infringement. Fair use, in this case, being the same
justification wikipedia often gives for including screenshots or
corporate logos, or whatever.

Wouldn't that rasterize the image?

Actually, forget I asked that question. Don't want to contribute to
the deliquency of a usenet poster, after all... :\

Why do you want this? Are you going to be violating any copyrights?

If copyrights aren't an issue, I've isolated the logo and can upload it
and give you directions on how to do it yourself . . . but I don't
want to be a party to a possible CR infringement.

Yes, just the act of pasting it into PS would make it raster - unless
you pasted as a smart object (can't remember the actual term). And even
then, it's difficult to edit smart objects in the way you need.

You have to understand - not only is it a case of not wanting to get
our butts kicked by the holder, it's also a matter of professional
courtesy. Many of us (of not all at one time or another) have been
stolen from in that way.

Too, it's a matter of helping you protect *your* behind. Too many
people don't think about copyrights . . . and then are shocked and
unprepared (both financially and legally) when they get a huge invoice
or a court summons.

How soon do you need it? Let me think it over and I'll be back by
tonight . . .

Honestly, no one's calling you a crook - it's just a really big deal,
professionally and legally. So please don't feel insulted or put off. :

That makes sense - I guess one lesson for me to learn from this is that
sometimes explaining why you're interested in doing something - that
placing that which you're doing in context - can be helpful Smile

I think there's such a thing as too much context, as well, though. The
trick, I guess, is just coming up with a good standard for determing
just how much context is appropriate, heh.

This PDF seems to be not Illustrator compatible but for the same reasons
you mention Connie I would not spend another minute on it.

It is compatible with CS2, it just takes some finagling. I did it only
on the off-chance that his request is legitimate.

But in the possible case that it's not, I won't save it and I certainly
won't describe the process.
