Hello Donster...

Let's say you want to distribute a coin evenly around a circle, as a
"coin" we just make a circle, in this example..

Draw a circle and give it a fill. Now draw a vertical path in the lenght
you want your finished distributed circle to be, with no stroke and no
fill. Align your path vith the circle so the path is aligned centred
vertical an aligns with the top of the circle horisontaly. Select both
ang group them. With the group selected, go to, effects, distort and
transform, transform. Lets say you want 10 "coins" distributed around
your circle. Now in the rotate field type: 360/10. And in the copies
field type: 9. (Yoy want 10 but you got one already). Now hit enter and
you are done. This is a live effect, so you can change the number of
copies in the apperance pallette, and the diameter of your circle by
extending your vertical path with the direct selection tool (white
arrow). Vhen expanding Apperance, if nessecary, the vertical path will
nicely disappear, and you got an editable circle of "coins"

Or:

1. Draw a circle, the way you want the position of your objects to be
2. Draw your object, for instance a triangle
3. Use Align and Transform to position this triangle exactly at the top
of the circle
4. Select the triangle (Set the View to "Outline", that enables you to
pin point the center of the circle), choose the Rotate Tool, Option/Alt
click on the center of the circle, that will be the point of origin for rotating
5. Fill in a number of degrees (when you need 10 objects, 36 degrees)
and hit copy
6. Hit Transform Again 8 times (Cmnd-D)

You can get rid of the circle now if you wish, essentially it was just
an aid.
