Hello,

I'm new to working with Illustrator, so don't be to mean to me.

I've made some posters for a party before, but always in full colour
printing. This looked great but is very expensive. So this year we decided
to go for 2-color printing. But this leaves me with a lot of questions.
I know the printer wants his files in CMYK, so can I only use a combination
of 2 of these colors? Or can I choose any combination?
And if I use white paper with black and red text, that stil counts as 2
colors right? And what about 2 colors faded and mixed together? Is there an
easy way to check how many colors I am using?
If you scan a picture, turn it to grayscale and then turn it in to a
duotone, can you go for 2-color printing or do you have to do someting else?

I've got so many questions about this. Is there anyone willing to help me?

Thanks,

Peet

not sure how big you poster is...but, I use a different local printer who uses a Xerox Docutech
printer/copier with amazing results. More amazing is that full color on 11 X 17 glossy cardstock my
price is .90ea.

If you just use Black (K) and Magenta (M) for instance you
are using two colors, whatever you do with them. Mix it up,
make duotones, all stays two colors.

Yes Black and red text is two colors (officially Black is
not a color, but it is one print action).

You would be better of and would have much more choices,
using Pantone colors. Load the Pantone swatches (assuming
you are working in Illustrator, that is what this group is
about). Thousands of colors are at you disposal. The
printing office just opens that can of ink for that color.

If you scan a picture, make a greyscale and then (I assume
in Photoshop) convert it into a duotone, use the Custom
colors which are Pantone. And yes the printing process will
be a two color one.
