I have a problem with Illustrator printing files in B/W, however not
all files.

When I print some files out from a AI format, they print in B/W. The
only problem I can see is when I delete all the images (3 of), the
document prints in colour. When I goto save as a PDF, the summaries
area tells me my document contains spot colours.

Looking at my pallet, it contains only 5 colours, none of which are
spot colours. All my images are embedded saved as CMYK, as the document
is also CMYK.

Does anyone know why this would happen. Help would be much appreciated.

Darren.

Then that most likely means you have spot colors . . . go into your
swatches palette and double-click on each of the colors - a dialog box
will pop up. Make sure that "Process" is selected for each of the
colors.

Process colors *can* be spot colors, too. Usually for screenprinting .

Again, CMYK colors *can* be spot colors. Just because the file is saved
as or you're working in a CMYK colorspace doesn't mean that spot colors
(even CMYK ones) aren't lurking.

Thank CMP, but how would tell which swatch colours are spot colours
then? None of them have a spot logo on them.

Also, how can the fact that when deleting the 3 images off the artwork,
it prints out in colour be explained?

One method is to double-click on each and every swatch . . . though
I'm, pretty sure there's an easier way. Let me open Illy up (just got
into work) and take a looksee . . .

Personally, my best guess would be that one (or more) of your images is
bad. Have you tried deleting one at a time? Essentially "auditioning"
which one's the baddie?

Also, what are the formats for each of the images? TIFF, EPS, etc?
