You might try this.
If yoy have Acrobat v7 installed, open the PDF with it, then edit the
text by selecting Advanced Editing Tool bar > Touch Up Object Tool.
This should open a .tmp file in Illustrator, which is a temporary
working copy of your file.
make your edits then close file. You should see a prompt, allow it to
save edits.
Does this help your file size??
