Archived from groups: alt>graphics>illustrator (more info?)

Hi - I have a dropshadow in a 2 colour document which Illustrator 10
automatically converts to CMYK.

I took the drop shadow and copied and pasted it into Photoshop, did a
monotone spot colour to it and saved it as an EPS. Went back to Illustrator
and replaced the Illustrator dropshadow with the Photoshop EPS version.

Is this the correct method? If I embed the dropshadow, it converts to CMYK,
so I am keeping it as a link.

Thanks,

Yitz

I don't know if what you did will work; What I have done for 1,2 or 3 colour
print jobs where I use spot/pantone colours only is apply the drop shadow
using Filter (not Effect). Then in the layers pallette you can navigate to
the drop shadow itself and apply whatever spot/pantone colour you need at
whatever %-age. You don't need to ungroup the objects. This method I know
works with my print shops for my pantone jobs.

Thanks - but my printer said I should set it up properly before I send it. I
asked if I could do that and they said no. I guess that is the tradeoff when
you find an inexpensive printer...

Still looking for suggestions...

Yitz

Things interacting with transparency do it through process.

Look on the Adobe site for a paper:
"Achieving Reliable output with Transparency".
If you can't find it - let me know
I will mail it to you.

Ya, so did you try what I suggested? That is what YOU need to do before you
send it to the printer. If this isn't what you are looking for, can you tell
us more? Maybe I got the question wrong, but I didn't suggest you should ask
the printer to do any work on your file.

I decided to remove the dropshadows. I'll try that next time.
Thanks, Yitz
